Back on it.

Been a while.

lovely typography

This is lovely, its a rare treat to see such a good clean typographic banner. It must have been one of those brilliant moments when it all came together and actually worked, so many of these things never quite turn out how you imagined. Although the more i play with it i think its quite a designers-banner. Always feel like a boring client thing to say but a better call-to-action/info on the pay off wouldnt hurt.

Paint that shit gold

tag any site on the web from hip-hopsters Atmoshpere. Check out the gallery for the best ones…i thought some were quite inventive, sort of banksy style online. A shame that they cant be actually stuck to the site somehow though.

You suck at photoshop

And thanks to vi-R-us I saw this again which I had forgotten about and it always makes me laugh

Writing without words

Ive always found breaking down one thing to make another interesting, from sound waves to songs and videos to this, the visual representation of texts and the differences in writing styles. The whole picking apart and fragmenting something, putting it all into order is a little freaky and anal and god only knows how long it took her. But if thats what you want to do with your life….. there is a whole thing here about the thought of trying to find order in everything. On one side im sure theres plenty to learn putting every little detail into separate boxes and tagging them, on the other its always good just to dive into a box marked ‘MISC.’ the whole edge of chaos thing. Anyway..this one below is from Jack Kerouac’s ‘On the Road’

Its all been broken down into branches of chapters, paragraphs and then words using different colours to distinguish categories. You can read more about Stephanie Prosavec and the work at her site, it’s been real

From the always interesting Visual complexity

They’re watching you…

I was marveling at a friends new camera recently and the way it can recognize faces in a shot and focus accordingly. “if you could do that with a camera then you must be able to do it from some sort of advertising system” I thought. “you could target based on gender, size, body shape and all sorts. That would be cool. If a bit creepy” I also thought.

Well as with everything…

“Engineers at Microsoft have developed a prototype advertising system that uses a small video camera and facial-recognition software to try to determine a viewer’s gender and select an appropriate ad to display. The system is intended for use with large video screens in public places, such as shopping malls. It’s one of the projects being pursued inside Microsoft’s adCenter Labs.

Graffiti wall

I don’t know much about this but it looks good. Created by Tangible Interaction in Vancouver for the Richmond Winter Festival it allows up to 10 people to tag some kind of light wall. I like to think that they all got projected somewhere or that they were saved and made into a giant graffiti wall-o-the future or something but if not its a nice bit of performance art.

stone codes

These things freak me out a bit. Don’t know why… they’re so nicely alien and weird looking. For now anyway. Dont know if this actually works but it looks cool.
